This boda boda man, under custody turned himself in over the weekend.
The police said that this man has earlier disappeared shortly after informing the authorities about his wife who had gone missing on January 15, 2024.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police Spokesman on Monday, January 22, said the boda boda man is a key suspect in the murder of his wife identified as Jane Mahoro at Luwunga village in Nama Sub-County Mukono District.
The Luwunga village Chairperson, Mr. Patrick Mugerwa, said the body was retrieved from an abandoned pit-latrine near the home of the suspect during a search after some children in the neighborhood told their parents about a foul smell from the pit-latrine.
Mr. Patrick Mugerwa also added that they became suspicious when the boda boda man reported a case of his missing wife yet the couple always had misunderstandings and regular fights but the LC had never intervened since nobody including the wife ever reported about the domestic misunderstandings, but because most of the residents knew about the characters of the boda boda man, the suspicion led to the discovery of the body.
When the suspect reported the case of his missing wife on January 16, he claimed that the wife had abandoned the children aged 5 and 7 in the house and relocated to an unknown place.
Ssalongo Kawooya, an immediate neighborto the suspect, said that in case the deceased was spotted talking to a neighbor, it always sparked off a fight between the couple.
Mr. Kawooya added that the deceased identified as Maama Alama, a soft-spoken lady aged 30, was last seen on January 15.
Mr. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan spokesman, said the police are conducting investigations into the murder.
