According to a statement issued by the police, the deceased was identified as Paddy Sserunjogi, better known as Sobbi, who was allegedly taken from Kampala while he was on his way to guard disputed land.
It’s alleged that a group of people armed with pistols, knives, and sticks attacked another group during a land dispute, killing Sobi, while others, including Katumba Gerald, Mateka Andrew, and Aliyu Dela, were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police said the latest findings show that a man named Kalisa bought the troubled land for Shs 100 million in 2007 and paid Shs 20 million, but that the people he paid the money to were not the real owners.
Kibi Paul’s children and grandchildren, led by Deborah Nagadiya and Kiwewa Barton, also brought the allegedly valid title deeds and took the case to lawyers.
Katonda’s Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Majid Karim, said they are investigating how Sobi and his companions were taken to Gomba on disputed land, which led to his death.
Sobbi died while testifying that he was a criminal involved in various forms of theft and other crimes.
He had recently said that he had survived the brutal and painful acts he had committed against people for 30 years.
