Police in pursuit of Jinja journalist murderers

Police in Jinja City are actively investigating the murder of Jinja-based journalist and comedian Rogers Kifubangabo, alias Magufuli Zonto, who was stabbed to death by yet-to-be-known assailants.

The 32-year-old son of Busoga Kingdom’s Information Minister Michael Kifubangabo and former presenter at Baba TV’s ‘Zonto Show” program was murdered on Sunday night in Kalina zone, in Budhumbuli, a crime-ridden area in Bugembe, Jinja North Division.

The recently promoted Kiira region police spokesperson, SP James Mubi, confirmed the incident and said that “Kifubangabo was murdered a few meters from where he lived in Bugembe. The body was discovered in a pool of blood with cuts around the neck.

“We have started investigations to ascertain the motive of the killers, and we want to assure the people of Bugembe that the killers shall be apprehended and prosecuted,” Mubi said before consoling the bereaved family of Mr. Kifubangabo.

Police said they will, effective today (Monday), kick off the operation dubbed ‘Towa Ujama’ in Bugembe and Mafubira, which will be aimed at eliminating criminality in these areas. He also warned politicians against interfering with police operations aimed at creating a good environment for people while moving and operating their businesses.

“Police will be carrying out investigations under “Towa Ujama’ starting today in Mafubira and Bugembe, and we shall not entertain politicians who always want to interfere with our work. We are committed to creating a favorable environment for everyone,” SP Mubi said.

Police arrived at the scene and took the body to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

Meanwhile, Netizen posts has learned that the deceased, who is survived by a widow and three children, will be laid to rest on Wednesday at Nagweni village, Bulopa Sub-county, Kamuli district.

This website has also learned that the same area where the journalist was killed is where Prossy Nyanga, a weightlifter, was stabbed to death in September last year as she returned to her residence.
