The arrested were identified as Kyaligonza Robert and Ssekyanzi Elia, and they were arrested in a raid conducted by Kawempe police in the Maganjo area of Nabweru in Wakiso district.

Police said Kyaligonza Robert was found in possession of a Star pistol with eight bullets and admitted to robbing a mobile phone in Maganjo, allegedly belonging to Muwonge Eddy.

These UPDF soldiers, who were allegedly using the pistols to steal mobile money, were found with S$6 million in their possession, which they had just stolen.

The UPDF has taken Kyaligonza into custody while the investigation continues.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owesigire urged others with information about the robbers to contact the police so that they can be prosecuted.

It should be noted that many mobile money shops have been robbed in different parts of the country. For example, a mobile money shop that was robbed in Mubende district on June 19, 2023, and an AK-47 that was grabbed from police officers at the Division Headquarters checkpoint at Nsangi in Wakiso district on May 29, 2023, were used in the robbery.

Another mobile money shop was robbed at the start of June 2023 in the District of Kyotera.

In a movie-like night attack, gunmen raided Lwanga Maurice mobile money shop at Ziriddamu shopping center, opened fire, and fled the scene with millions of shillings in a sack.
