Six people are in the hospital with injuries after being attacked and bitten by bees at Bupala village in Buyanga in Bugweri district.
These bees attacked the home of Osinde Vicent and injured the children and his wife, as well as their two goats, who were bitten by the bees and died on the spot.
Bupala village chairman Kakaire Mahad said that the bees caught them in the yard while they were eating, stung them together with their animals, and then flew away.
By the time rescuers arrived, they were all in critical condition, especially the young children.
As nest temperatures rise above 90°F, bumble bee queens and workers stop incubating the brood, move off the nest, and the workers begin fanning. By fanning, bumble bees have been shown to lower the temperatures of their nests by 10°F (Gardner et al. 2006).
It is reported by Bugweri district vermin officer that during early in the year, when the sun scotches and temperatures are high, bees stay out of the hives and become risky to the people in the communities.
