Kato John Ssenfuma who is 40years has been released on bond from police.
The arrested is identified as Kato John Ssenfuma who is 40years, a resident of Mukono, who is also a teacher at an unnamed school in Mityana district.
Ssenfuma was arrested by Kanyanya police after the child’s guardian, Sheila, 26yrs, a resident of Kyebando in Kawempe district, reported a complaint at the police.
Sheila told police that they first noticed messages exchanged between the child and the teacher via Whatsapp.
Sheila also said after the two talked, they agreed that the teacher should go to the child’s parents’ home where he would meet her.
On January 13, the teacher allegedly went to the child’s parents’ house, but found them ready for him because of the conversation they had witnessed between him and their child and informed the police who came and arrested him.
It should be noted that according to the constitution of Uganda, any person who attempts to have unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of eighteen years is guilty of an offence and liable to “imprisonment for 18 years.”
Deputy Police Spokesperson in Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owesigire, said the teacher is still being held in custody, while investigations are ongoing.
