The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) have recovered guns and cattle in the Karamoja region.

9 (nine) guns, Eight bullets were recovered from the gunmen, 27 cattle were rescued, and 47 goats and sheep.

The raids by UPDF started on December 30th, 2023, and ended this year on January 5th.

At least 42 people were arrested in these raids, dubbed “Usalama kwa woote.”

All the arrested have not been taken to court for various charges, as the court is still on leave.

Since the operations started in July 2021, 1092 firearms, 7,483 rounds of ammunition, and 41,158 livestock, including cattle, goats, sheep, and others, have been recovered by the UPDF from the illegal Karamojongs.

A total of 28,093 fighters have been arrested, of whom 1487 have been taken to civilian courts, while 1,512 have been convicted.

Acting UPDF 3rd Battalion spokesperson, Maj. Moses Amuya, said the operations were not over, as heavy weapons were still in the hands of the Karamoja fighters, who were still robbing their colleagues by stealing their livestock.
