Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after a long wait has declared who the new Kenyan president will be.
Kenyans went to the polls and according to the commission almost 14 million Kenyans went to the polls to elect their new leaders including Member of County assemblies, Senators, Governors, Women representatives, Members of parliament and president.
The presidential race had four candidates namely, Agano’s Rev David Mwaure Waihiga, Roots Party of Kenya Prof George Luchiri Wajackoyah, Kenya Kwanza, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) boss ans outgoing Deputy president Dr William Somoei Ruto and Azimilo La Umoja, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss and five time presidential candidate Raila Amollo Odinga.
After a long wait of verifying the tallies, IEBC’s chairperson Wafula Chebukati has declared Wailliam Ruto with 7,176,141 (50.49%) votes and the second was Raila Odinga with 6,942930 votes (48.85%)
The other candidates Prof George Wajackoyah polled 69,9969 votes and Agano party Rev David Waihiga Mwaure polled 31987 votes
