Private Public Partnerships are earmarked among the much needed collaborations that lead to National development. The Uganda National Development Plan III positions Private Public Partnerships as one of the advantages the country has in advancing industrialization and Uganda Industrial Research Institute leverages on this to drive its agenda of technology development and transfer for industrial development through research, innovation, skilling and business incubation.
Through such engagements the Uganda Industrial Research Institute works closely with Development Associations and Organizations in the Economic sector to boost their capacity to manufacture products. Apart from the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association who over the years have enjoyed skilling support from UIRI, the Institute has trained Institutions such as Watoto, CARITAS and currently Imam Muslim Leaders Association Bakida from Bweyogerere Kampala.
Imam Muslim Association Bakida requested to have its members train in Briquette Making, Soap processing, Carpentry, Textile and Bakery. Two trainings so far have been concluded that is the Briquette making training where they are turning waste to fuel for cooking and soap making where they made both liquid and bar soap. Hanifa Isa a trainee in Briquette production said the skills they got were going to help them earn a living while saving the environment since they were using waste.
Mpande Usama a trainee in the ongoing training in carpentry said his group intended to set up their own carpentry workshop and produce furniture, weaving and soap cutting machines so that people would earn a living.
Uganda Industrial Research Institute transforms the employment and skills landscape in Uganda providing the much needed skillsets for manufacturing products that meet the demands of the local and regional market as well create the much needed employment Ugandans need.
