Tsunami Alerts

Tsunami alerts refer to notifications issued by authorities to warn individuals and communities about the impending threat of a tsunami. These alerts are usually based on seismic activity, such as significant underwater earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides that have the potential to generate large ocean waves. Tsunami alerts can vary in urgency and impact, commonly categorized into three levels: “advisory,” “watch,” and “warning.” An advisory suggests that a tsunami could occur, a watch indicates a possible tsunami threat but no significant impacts are expected, and a warning signifies that a dangerous tsunami is imminent or already happening. The objective of tsunami alerts is to ensure public safety by providing timely information for evacuation and protective measures in areas at risk of flooding or destruction from tsunami waves.
