Construction of Hoima sports stadium to start in three weeks – Magogo

The president of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has assured the people of Bunyoro that the construction of USD$130 million is to start in three weeks.

 

Magogo made the pronouncement on Monday while meeting different stakeholders in football from the Albertine region at Rogers Byamukama’s home in Bigando cell Masindi municipality.

 

He thank the Rujumba family for the donation land for the establishment of stadium. We have 34 acres and the stadium is going to be on international standards.they have already handed over land to government to start the construction because the contract is already signed,

 

The Hoima Sports Stadium, also FUFA Rujumba Stadium Hoima, is a planned multi-purpose stadium in Uganda. It is intended to be used for the first time, during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament. The stadium is one of the three stadia that Uganda plans to use during the tournament, that will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

 

The stadium is located in Mparo Division, in the city of Hoima, in Bunyoro sub-region, in the Western Region of Uganda. The proposed stadium will sit on a total of 34.9 acres of which 10 acres were donated by the Estate of the late Dr. Rujumba and another 10 acres was sold to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) by the same estate.

 

Flanked by Justus Mugisha the FUFA first vice president, Magogo called upon the residents of Bunyoro to use this opportunity to benefit from the many people who are going to throng the region.

 

“Ensure that you tap into the money they are going to bring. Establish guest houses, put in place restaurants among others. You may not accommodate players but other people who are going to spectate the matches,” he said.

 

Rogers Byamukama the member of the executive, explained that over 200,000 people are expected to come in the country to spectate the AFCON matches saying that this is a big opportunity for the people to make money.

 

He further explained that four training grounds are also going to be established at a cost of sh10b, adding that there’s no excuse for people not to make money.

 

“Local content is going to be emphasized. This opportunity shouldn’t come and pass us without benefiting. It’s high time we prepared now such that we don’t miss,” he advised.

 

The meeting was attended by sports officers from the eight districts from Bunyoro, club owners, District Football Association chairpersons among others.

 

The aim of the meeting was to understand the challenges affecting the development of football in the region and how to address them.

 

We also wanted to understand how football can be made admirable, supported and loved. Most of the challenges are similar and we promise to improve in so

me of the areas,” he assured.
