They were speaking at a meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace in Entebbe.
A statement from the meeting signed by Government Attorney General, Hamson Obua, said the NRM MPs received an explanation from their chairman on the merger and demerger plan, and agreed to support the amendments the government will present to parliament to implement the plan.
This will be the second time the government has introduced these amendments in parliament ,including constitutional amendments, as some of the merged institutions were created in the constitution.
The government at the end of last year 2023, introduced bills in parliament to abolish various agencies including those that perform similar functions and those that are no longer useful to the country, yet they spend huge amounts of money, but the parliament rejected them.
Some of the agencies the governmrnt wanted to merge included UNRA which it wants to bring back under the ministry of transport and roads.
The National Justice Commission wants to merge with the National Human Rights Commission etc.
According to the government plan, 33 agencies will be merged while 63 agencies will be brought under their respective ministries.
The government wants to keep only 61 agencies.
In the merger plan, the government says it will spend more than Shs 700 billion on similar agencies.
In the 2024/2025 budget, the Ministry of Labor Affairs wants Shs 79 billion to compensate more than 1,000 civil servants who will lose their jobs if some agencies are merged.
