Uganda People’s Defense Forces soldier has shot and killed a civilian in Bukwo district.
The suspect is Cpl Sibiwa Lawrence attached to 51 Infantry Battalion in Bukwo district who allegedly shot as civilian identified as Kwemoi Fred, 34 years, a resident of Taboswet village, Amananga Parish, Amananga sub county in Bukwo district.
The UPDF 3rd Battalion Spokesperson Isaac Owale said the incident occurred on Sunday evenin at around 9:00PM along Kapchorwa -Bukwo- Suam Road.
“It’s unfortunate that our own soldier of UPDF Cpl Sibiwa Lawrence attached to 51 Infantry Battalion in Bukwo district shot and injured one civilian identified as Kwemoi Fred , 34 yrs, a resident of Taboswet village, Amananga Parish, Amananga sub county in Bukwo district” he said.
He said that the deceased Kwemoi was intercepted and shot during a scuffle that ensued between him and soldiers who were tasked to guard road equipment for China State Construction Company which is undertaking works on the Kapchorwa- Bukwo road.
Owale said that the deceased was pronounced dead along the way during evacuation to hospital and that the suspect Cpl Sibiwa Lawrence was arrested and is under UPDF custody.
