Well yesterday we reported here how Opposition leading outfit National Unity Platform was bitter about it’s Members of parliament who reportedly received what they called a bribe of UGX 40 Million.

According to NUP, NRM legislators received theirs from the Office of the government chief whip while opposition and independents reportedly received theirs from Speaker Anita Among’s residence but in cover not openly.
While speaking to media yesterday both NUP spokespersons Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro and Joel Ssenyonyi all confirmed the payment and revealed to press that some gullible NUP legislators had fallen into the trap and received this evil cash whose purpose was only said to be a package of appreciation.
Upon getting details that this was reportedly a bribe given to legislators, NUP in a statement yesterday ordered it’s legislators who had received the evil cash to return it immediately since the opposition outfit condemns and doesn’t condone open day corruption.
However, in a turn of events, parliament in a statement by Chris Obore the director communications has distanced itself from the said money claiming all payments to legislators are from the consolidated account direct to the Bank Account numbers of the MPs not in cash as alleged by the Kamwokya based outfit.
Accordingly, parliament has tasked the NUP Mps who reportedly the bribe to report to the office of the Inspectorate of Government and also task their MPs who sit on the Parliamentary Commission which is the decision making body of the legislature to investigate the matter and bring the institution of parliament for accountability.
“As leaders, the MPs who NUP claims received the money are duly bound under section 10 of the penal code act 2002 (As amended) to declare the same to the Inspectorate of government for proper investigation”- reads part of the statement.
Parliament has also warned National Unity platform to stop pulling it’s image into their internal party fights because it taints the whole institution and has also urged the public to treat NUP’s yesterday statement with the contempt it deserves since parliament doesn’t pay MPs in cash.
Shockingly other opposition parties haven’t yet opened up on their MPs receiving the same, not even the ruling NRM party. While speaking about the cash bonanza, Kira Municipality legislator and also FDC party spokesperson Ibrahim Semujju Nganda says they haven’t yet got such dime and if they don’t get it they will petition parliament for discrimination.
It’s not clear now who is speaking the truth since parliament the (accused) has distanced itself from the cash bonanza and also NUP apart from the statement released yesterday hasn’t revealed the MPs who got the cash from speaker Anita Among’s residence.
