BIG STORY: Crossfire As Bobi Wine’s NUP Camp Labels Kibalama And Group As Crooks

What started as a rumor and later spread as wild fire has forced the National Unity Platform to come out and issue a statement regarding the news that has been making rounds on different blogs and social media that Bobi Wine had been overthrown as the party President by the ever inconsistent Mzee Kibalama.

According to the news that made rounds, there was a NUP delegate’s conference and is reported to have taken place at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga yesterday morning and in attendance were NUP members aligned to Nkonze Kibalama who handed the party to Kyagulanyi two years ago. The conference according to reports convened to change party leadership.

Those affected by the changes were David Lewis Rubongoya who was relived of his duties as party’s secretary general and replaced by Simbwa Kagombe. Also replaced was party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi who was replaced by a one Gideon Tugume.

As if that was not enough, even the party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was allegedly replaced by Nkonge Kibalama who at one time categorically said NUP was going the right direction under the stewardship of Bobi Wine.

Further William Waiga replaced Benjamin Katana as party’s Treasurer. Earlier while speaking to CBS radio in an interview, party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi clarified that what was done is drama since the people who called the delegate’s conference are not mandated to do so since the law doesn’t allow them to do so according to the party’s constitution.

Later in a statement released by Kamwokya, Bobi Wine is still the party president, David Lewis Rubongoya is still the party General Secretary, Joel Ssenyonyi is still the spokesperson and Benjamin Katana is also the party’s treasurer until 2025 as per the party constitution.

“For clarity there has been no Delegates Conference of the party in the recent past. According to our constitution, a Delegate’s conference sits at least once every after five years to elect leaders, and once elected, those leaders hold office for five years”- Reads part of the Statement.

Kamwokya has bashed the ever changing Kibalama and his group and labeled them crooks seeking public attention who are attempting to create diversions. NUP has urged it’s members to treat Kibalama’s dealings with the contempt they deserve and ignore them without fear or favor.

“The party and it’s leadership urges it’s members and supporters to ignore them and treat with contempt all diversionary attempts”- adds the statement.
