Yesterday voters of Kayunga district went to the polls to vote for the LC5 chairperson in a tightly contested race which attracted six candidates from three political parties and other three vied independently.
The battle lines were drawn between National Unity platform candidate Harriet Nakwede Kafero and National Resitance Movement candidate Andrew Muwonge. From the onset ballot stuffing was the order of the day as some poling stations had already finished voting as early as 6:30am with polling officers pre-ticking ballots.
However, after a tense exercise of tallying the votes, the Returning Officer Janepher Kyobutunji has announced the winner being Muwonge Andrew with 31830 votes followed by NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde with 31380 votes and other candidates polled votes as follows, Jamil Kamoga Independent 279 votes, DP’s Anthony Wadimba 158 votes, Bonifance Bandikubi 270 votes and Majib Nyanzi 1287 votes
