According to Ugandan poultry farmers, they’re making losses since they can’t access Kenya’s market which would consume almost 75% of their eggs yet they use several Kenyan products during production. Farmers say chicks, boosters, plastics come from Kenya.
Kenya and Uganda have been in a non verbal trade war for quite some time, early this year Kenya banned Ugandan maize claiming it contained a lot of Aflatoxins which are harmful to her people, the ban would later be lifted after several quality measures were put in place.
Few months ago Uganda confiscated Kenyan trucks of fish destined for Congo claiming the goods in transit contained Uganda’s immature fish.
Now as the battle of trade escalates, Uganda’s minister for East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga has revealed that Uganda is reciprocating the Kenya’s ban on poultry products by imposing a ban on several products from Kenya as will be determined by Uganda’s ministry of Agriculture.
