Sudan Police Fire Tear Gas To Quell Protests

Khartoum: Sudanese police and the military have fired tear gas to quell protests which have been taking place since the army ousted and arrested transitional prime minister Abadalla Hamdok, his family and put into house arrest for days sparking country wide protests.

Sudanese raised in big numbers to reject military rule led by the Army Chief and Commander in Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan who accused the prime minister of getting off the line of the transitional agreement hence the coup-de-tat but his military bowed to pressure and signed another agreement and re-instated prime minister Abdalla Hamdock with full powers to run the government independently as the second largest African country prepares for elections in the next 18 months.

However, even after re-instating a civilian leader Hamdok, protesters insist he’s still under military influence to lead the country. Prior to his agreement with the military, the Army killed 6 people and injured many while quelling protests in the capital. Prime minister Hamdok has since instituted investigations into the killing of civilian protesters,

Sudan has been under turmoil ever since the fall of Omar-El-Bashir whose over 30 years leadership was brought to an end through protests and his own army, he’s facing charges of corruption and a string of other charges in Sudanese court and set to be handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to face war crimes and crimes against humanity for the Darfur war.
